Event Details

IHF Trophy 2016 – Cook Islands Legacy is an International Handball Federation initiative. It was developed in early 2010 for the benefit of developing handball nations to aspire to international competitiveness and an opportunity for successful host countries to be experienced and conditioned in hosting events of this calibre.

The IHF Trophy 2016 is a continental event where developing nations compete for a placing in their region. Under 20 men and Under 19 women are targeted for this competition from within the Oceania Region. They represent the 19 member federations from within the region and represent their nation at this event that is primarily funded by the International Handball Federation. This is transparent via the Handball Cook Islands Incorporated Society.

It is a history-making event as it is the first for the Cook Islands. We are expecting 11 nations from a membership of 19 federations to descend upon our shores. They are Australia, American Samoa, Samoa, New Zealand, New Caledonia , Vanuatu, Solomon Islands, Kiribati, Papua New Guinea, Tahiti and us the Cook Islands.

The competition will host the under 19 women’s commencing from the 8th to 14th December 2016 ending with the under 20 men’s competition scheduled for the 15th to 21st December 2016.

It will be an honour to have you here with us to celebrate this history-making Cook Islands Legacy. We look forward to embracing you all to our shores, Aere Mai.
